Moonfell Grove

Synopsis

This project explores cosy games and gothic horror and how this thematic contradiction can be shown visually, in a way that can take the edge off horror, making it more accessible for audiences that want to enjoy horror/mature themes but don’t want to be in high stress/scary scenarios. Moonfell Grove is set on Noctaluna Bay, an island that split into two, when the moon shattered and a piece landed there, leaving the moon a permanent crescent and changing every facet of life for the residents, human and nonhuman alike.

What motivated you to develop/create this project?

I've always enjoyed the cosy game genre, and the visual style and unnerving feeling that comes with darker themes like gothic horror, and I wanted to merge the two styles into a softer, more wholesome 'dark cosy' game concept akin to the dark cosiness of The Addams Family.

What has been a highlight of your time at Abertay?

My highlight would be working together and meeting like-minded people during the group professional project. It was so nice seeing all our efforts come together into our game.

What are your hopes and future ambitions for after graduation?

While I don't have a clear image of where I want to go, I'm keeping my options open and looking to expand my skill set and work on projects I'm passionate about.
