Alepha

Synopsis

Alepha (Al-fa) is a local multiplayer shooter designed for controller inspired by 2000s arena shooters such as Halo: Combat Evolved. Bringing players back to the couch for a casual, chaotic local multiplayer experience. A combination of the aesthetic and gameplay of older games, whilst using modern technology to create a high-fidelity experience. Faithfully adapting the 2000s sci-fi style utilising modern hardware to showcase the jump in model quality. This project aims to display the timeless experience of playing these older games with friends in a new light.

What motivated you to develop/create this project?

When I was young, I was bought the limited edition steelbook for Halo 2, the bonus disc contained behind the scenes development footage. This made me realise games were more than just entertainment, they are an art form and I wanted to be a part of that. Since then, I've learned to develop in many areas such as programming, modelling, texturing, and networking. My goal was to bring all my skills together in one final academic project in a homage to the games that brought me into the industry.

What has been a highlight of your time at Abertay?

The professional group project, working with a team of people with diverse skills to create a game outside of my comfort zone. It helped me develop my team dynamic skills and broaden my own art skills.

What are your hopes and future ambitions for after graduation?

I plan to continue developing Alepha along with my skills in 3D art to hopefully one day work within the games that inspired me to start in the first place.
