Sculpting smooth surfaces using traditional triangles can be complex and challenging for computers to render. However, this project sidesteps these issues by utilizing mathematical formulas to represent shapes, unlocking many new possibilities, such as shape blending and raytracing. Additionally, the models can be saved as files and loaded as brushes, providing further flexibility and versatility.
'Beyond Triangles: Sculpting with SDF Raymarching' is a 2023 Digital Graduate Show project by Alessandro Bason, a Computer Games Technology student at Abertay University.
I was interested in developing a new rendering process that would be easier and more versatile to use and I believe this could - potentially - be the future of high-fidelity rendering.
