Cumbrae Craft

Synopsis

Cumbrae Craft is a heritage-themed game created with Minecraft Education Edition (Mojang) containing a virtual representation of the Isle of Cumbrae in North Ayrshire, Scotland, along with its heritage and historic assets. It is designed for primary school children of all skills and abilities and provides an attractive and accessible learning environment focusing on local heritage and history. The game consists of eight interactive lessons and was developed in collaboration with North Ayrshire Council and Abertay University and was funded under Millport CARS.

Cumbrae Craft

Cumbrae Craft is a heritage-focussed game containing a virtual representation of Cumbrae, Scotland. It consists of eight interactive lessons designed for primary school children of all skills and abilities.

Motivation

We developed Cumbrae Craft to explore the potential for education through gaming, which led to the projects strong focus on history, heritage and accessible gameplay. Our aim was to ensure the lessons delivered fun and entertaining twists while remaining grounded in Cumbrae's own rich culture.
