Procedural generation is a technique increasingly used in games today such as Like Spelunky and No Man’s Sky. This project investigates if the technique can be used to create fun and balanced card games, something which has been discussed by major developers but not taken forward as of yet. My algorithm will look to create the best-suited card for the players to use during the game. Players will be able to play a version of the game with and without procedural generation to explore what version of the game they prefer.
I have always been a fan of Card Games from Magic: The Gathering to Hearthstone and Procedurally Generation is a technique that has always been intresting to me from playing games to learning how it works as a programmer so the chance to create a project that combines both was an idea i couldnt turn down.
“Can Procedurally Generated cards work in an Collectiable Card Game” is a 2021 Digital Graduate Show project by Connor Letham, a Computer Game Applications Development student at Abertay University.
