Creating environments for computer games is especially difficult and time-consuming, not only do environments need to be thought out and planned with great care, but each asset must also be carefully created if an environment is to be fully realized inside a digital space. Assets such as trees are especially difficult to properly model due to the many factors contributing to their appearance. To reduce the amount of time needed to create these assets, many developers have relied on procedural generation techniques. For a procedural content generation technique to be viable, it must provide users with some degree of control over the final output. By investigating methods of creating digital 'Bonsai' (a Japanese tradition of growing dwarf replicas of plants), it is hoped a solution can be found that allows users to grow and sculpt accurate models of trees for the purpose of asset creation within digital environments.
Love of gardening and an interest in procedural generation/tool development.
