The Art of Title Sequences: Evoking Emotion Through Design

This project explores pacing, colour, image, typography, sound, lighting and aspects of camera in combination with psychology to understand the emotional experience that title sequences can create for viewers. It also explores how certain choices of image, sound and written text can help elevate, lower or change these emotions.

By redesigning and creating a television title sequence in this project, I delved further into these topics whilst experimenting and having fun. I’ve presented my work in a personally new format – cinema.

Investigating cinematography techniques and narrative design used in television title sequence development to gain a better understanding of how they can evoke different emotions.

Motivation

For this project, I really wanted to do something fun while pushing my skills technically and creatively. This was also a chance for me to combine all the 3D skills I have learned at Abertay for the past 4 years and create a project reflecting the type work I want to pursue in the future.
