The project focuses on facial rigging, looking at both efficient UI and the best-suited techniques and methods of rigging, as it focuses on the animator's experience. A rig consists of 'joints'/'bones' that sit inside a 3D model, allowing it to 'move' - be manipulated for animation. This manipulation is done through the UI, an arrangement of controllers that then drive the skeleton. This project delves into the various rigging processes that are common in facial rigging, scaling them up against each other and understanding the reasons behind their choosing.
"Facial Rigging - The challenges of an animator friendly rig" is a 2022 Digital Graduate Show project by Oliwia Szmyd, a Computer Arts student at Abertay University.
My interest in technical art, particularly rigging, had piqued my interest in what is key to creating a functioning, animator-friendly facial rig, since this is a whole area of expertise within itself.
