This project focuses on combining form and function to create more realistic and immersive designs by exploring how research informs design, the application of design theories in concept art and the comparison of firearm engineering and designing firearms for video games to see what aspects can be transferred across. At the start of the project, I created a video game firearm concept sheet to set as the control for the project. During the year, I researched the internals of firearms, the different mechanisms and how they impact the external features. Using this information, I went on to design the externals of my own video game firearm collection in order to compare them to the control.
"Video Game Firearms: How Does Research Improve Design?" is a 2022 Digital Graduate Show project by Quinn Georgeson, a Game Design and Production student at Abertay University.
I wanted to explore concept art pipelines and design theories through a niche subject to show they can be used for any medium.
