What creates an appealing art style for games?

Synopsis

This project focusses mostly on researching stylised art styles, however it will also be showcasing the differences in workflow between stylised and non-stylised assets. To accompany the research, I’ve developed a small section of a game-ready environment utilising the findings from the research to create an appealing art style for the scene.

What creates an appealing art style for games?

My project takes an in-depth look into what makes certain art styles used within video games appealing. Firstly, I explore what makes an art style appealing before creating a link between this and art styles used within games.

Motivation

The motivation for me behind this project was to understand how games are able to be produced in so many different art styles and yet have an incredibly large target audience that are drawn and not put off by the different styles.
