How do you get people to do art willingly?
What holds us back from making?
Through exploring different approaches to creativity such as conceptual art, zine culture, and childhood art and play, this project considers ways to combine the core elements of each to break down barriers to creativity built up through adulthood.
This research serves to explore a new form of outreach for people who may or may not be engaged with art activities to be inspired and gain the confidence to create fearlessly.
I was inspired to create this project because I wanted to share the joy of creating abstract and odd art with others. Art can be a tool of great self-expression and empowerment but often as we grow up, we begin to form barriers in our confidence in creating and making. I wanted to create a work that was accessible to people who feel a disconnection to art, and show how breaking down the role between artist and audience can inspire people to take back the creativity that they have always had in them.
“The [Peculiar] Exhibition of an [Unknown Artist]” is a 2020 Digital Graduate Show project by Vaughn McDougall, a Computer Arts student at Abertay University.
