The university celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2019, but our history goes back much further than that. It started 131 years ago in 1888, when the Dundee Technical Institute was founded.
Moving forward, in 2019 we were awarded funding by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. This is to develop a project that helps the Dundee community explore its rich history through the University archives.
First of the Abertay Firsts – 25 people and innovations associated with the university. Find out more about 25 people associated with the university who made a difference to the world.
The Young Ambassadors Project – We will create 250 Young Ambassadors by working with S2/S3 classes in local schools to encourage them to find interesting stories in the Abertay archives.
To help them, we will provide resource packs for schools to find out about the University’s rich history. This is designed to help pupils develop essential skills in research, communication and team building. Examples of their projects will be posted here. Contact the archives if you would like your school to be included or would like more information.
Memories Re-animated – We will engage with the local community, former students and staff through a 'Memory Exchange' to collect and share their memories of Abertay.
