Director of Abertay cyberQuarter

Professor Lynne Coventry

Prof Lynne Coventry is the Director of Abertay cyberQuarter and was appointed in the summer of 2022. Prof Coventry’s academic career began at University of Stirling and she has also worked with NCR as a usability researcher and also on secured interaction work such as replacements for PIN numbers. She went on to work for LifeScan in Inverness on development of user experiences for diabetes monitors and then rejoined academia with the PaCTLab at Northumbria University

cyberQuarter Business Development Manager

Cheryl Torano

Cheryl is the Business Development Manager for Abertay cyberQuarter. Her current role began in 2021 and is funded through Scottish Enterprise and the Scottish Government. Cheryl graduated from Abertay’s Ethical Hacking programme in 2017 having undertaken an accelerated degree. Prior to that she studied HND Computer Networking and Internet Technology at Dundee and Angus College. Following graduation she worked in Abertay University’s marketing team until 2019 when she took up a role with Brightsolid as a Cyber Security Engineer.

Dr Natalie Coull

Dr Natalie Coull is a Co-Director of Abertay's cyberQuarter, the Head of Department of Cybersecurity and Computing in the Faculty of Design, Informatics and Business and has research interests in secure coding, digital watermarks and computer memory-based security concerns. She also teaches foundational programming and computer security to undergraduate students. Natalie is actively engaged in outreach, including promoting female participation in cyber security and leading a programme to provide Abertay student mentors for local school pupils as part of their National Progression Award in Cybersecurity.

Professor Robert Ian Ferguson

Ian is the Professor of Computing at Abertay University where he leads cybersecurity research and has a particular interest in Digital Forensics. He gained his PhD in Software Engineering from the University of Sunderland in 1998 and was a member of the SmartLab at the University of Strathclyde from 2000 to 2010. His work in the fields of mobile and ubiquitous computing led to an interest in cybersecurity and in particular the challenge of improving methods, techniques and tools for digital forensics.

A member of the ‘Policing in a Digital World’ Professional Reference Group,  he has provided Expert Witness consultancy in the digital forensics field to various defence solicitors and to Police Scotland.

He has supervised twenty successful PhDs, external examined six and has recently led the successful bid to attract the £18M cyberQuarter KE project to Abertay.

cyberQuarter Project Manager

Leon Chan

Leon graduated with a First-class honours degree from Abertay’s Game Design and Production course in summer 2023. After graduating, he started working as a Project Coordinator for Abertay’s cyberQuarter. Prior to his degree, Leon studied Computer Games Development at HNC and HND level at West College Scotland in Paisley. Leon's main focus is to deliver the Scottish Cyber 9/12 Strategy Challenge to students across Scotland.

Research Fellow

Namrata Primlani.

Dr. Namrata Primlani investigates the implications of emerging technologies through qualitative studies and design methods. She has a MDes. in New media Design from the National Institute of Design, Gandhinagar and a PhD in Communication Design from Northumbria University, Newcastle. She has been a research fellow on projects funded by the EU and the EPSRC that explored issues such as trust, privacy, sustainability, and the ethics of innovation.

Sylvester Egbu

Sylvester has a background in Computer Science, from Ebonyi State University in Nigeria. Prior to pursuing further studies, Sylvester worked as a Security Administrator for the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) in Abakaliki, a project funded by the World Bank.

Following this, Sylvester pursued a master’s degree in Ethical Hacking and Cyber Security at Abertay University and achieved a Distinction in 2023. Outside of work, Sylvester is a passionate photographer and enjoys playing tennis.
