The scholarships below are open to international students and those applying from England, Wales and Northern Ireland with a 2.1 or above for a postgraduate course.
This programme offers a blend of knowledge, analytical and practical skills. This blend is vital for effective management of people in the challenging context of today’s public and private sector organisations.
Upon graduation, you'll be in a position to effectively make decisions and advise on a wide range of influences on business and HR strategies. You’ll develop the ability to supply accurate and timely advice about UK legislation, helping shape improvements to organisational and individual performance. There's an opportunity to study and be able to implement HRM policies and practices that take into account influences from different stakeholders and institutional forces relevant to the dealing with people’s contributions and rewards within organisations.

This programme is designed for people who, on the basis of their first degree and/or work experience in people management, wish to acquire further study of more contemporary and in depth HRM knowledge. The skills and competencies you’ll pick up throughout your studies are required for domestic and international organisations, and in the public and private sectors.
There will be opportunities to work with local organisations, giving you the chance to further understand the nature of your intended profession.
Applicants should have:
MSc Human Resource Management is a very practice-oriented subject, and this is reflected in the way you'll be taught and assessed. Theory will of course be explored, but it’s in the application of this theory that you’ll learn how to address the challenges faced in managing people and organisations.
Critically evaluate contemporary HR policies and practices in different business, industry and organisational contexts.
Initiate, promote and implement organisational change and development policies.
Develop effective evidence-based practices and policies designed to support strategic objectives and effective human capital building, deployment and reconfiguration.
Demonstrate effective communication and negotiation skills relevant to contemporary HR practice.
Use effectively business research skills to address HR issues and practice aiming at organisational impact.
Undertake an autonomous research project where they can identify and justify a research question/s, design and implement a suitable research methodology, analyse data, discuss results and make suitable recommendations.
In addition to traditional methods of assessment, including exams, class tests and reesearch projects, you’ll be assessed using a number methods, designed to give insight into best practices in the world of work. These include portfolio work, case study analysis, presentations (individual and group) and report writing.
There will also be 'authentic' assessments that replicate the type of work you would be expected to undertake as an HR professional. This includes self-reflection and activities such as designing and running a staff development event. The aim of the assessment strategy is not only to test your personal knowledge of the course, but also help you to learn through practice.
This module provides an in-depth understanding of the theoretical underpinnings and the practical implications of international approaches, models and regulations of managing people in a global context. Through this module you will examine the different models of international human resource management, the major employment policies of multinational companies and the problems that arise when operating in different countries.
This module aims to equip you with an understanding of the complex nature of leading and managing people when implementing and evaluating change in organisations. The relationship between task, people and technology will be analysed in the context of organizational change. Factors that necessitate change and the main indicators of change are critically analysed. Different approaches to leadership are examined as are alternative models of organisational change.
Overview of employee relations theory, practice and processes that build knowledge and skills typically expected in HR and employee management professionals need. Module content: The changing nature of employee relations; Employee relations in context; The employment relationship; Employee engagement; Employee relations and engagement.
An understanding of the principal internal and external contexts of contemporary organisations within which managers, HR professionals and workers interact in conditions of environmental turbulence, change and uncertainty. Module content includes: the nature of HRM and organisational behaviour; employee resourcing; performance management; employee development; employee relations; rewards and remuneration.
An examination of the interplay between social, psychological and structural factors within organisations and the impact of these factors on human behaviour in work contexts.
This module is designed to introduce postgraduate students to business research methods and statistical analysis. Theoretical, historical and statistical concepts are taught in lectures with hands on practical lab sessions using quantitative or/and qualitative techniques that allow students to put theory into practice.
Provides an understanding and critical awareness of contemporary perspectives on the effective management and development of human capital. Module content includes: the human capital context; managing human capital; developing human capital for effective organisational and individual performance.
The MSc research project is a research-based enquiry into a management issue or issues with the aim of finding a solution to a problem or problems and/or identifying, explaining and analysing elements of good or bad practice in the management of human resources.
