Students from Abertay’s Forensic Science programme got exclusive access to a lecture and live demonstration from the British Army’s Bomb Disposal Unit.
Including a classroom lecture and live explosives disposal demonstration, the session from 11 EOD Regiment: Royal Logistic Corps took place at the Ministry of Defence range at Barry Buddon, near Carnoustie.
A series of live detonations were carried out under the safe control of squadron members, followed by a forensic post bomb scene exercise where students were tasked with searching for and recovering evidence relevant to improvised explosive devices.
Neil Coupar, a lecturer from Abertay's School of Applied Sciences said: “Abertay is the only university in Scotland with an established link to the Bomb Disposal Squadron based in Edinburgh and this offers our students an experience that money can’t buy.''

At Abertay, our core focus is on preparing our students for their future careers, and this exercise allowed us to bring the professional world directly to these students, offering an authentic glimpse into the multifaceted nature of this field."
