The REF 2029 evaluation framework has three main areas -
Contribution to Knowledge and Understanding (CKU): Focuses primarily on research outputs, alongside wider contributions to the discipline.
Engagement and Impact (E&I): Broadens the criteria to include public and end-user engagement, as well as documented real-world impact through case studies.
Strategy, People and Research Environment (SPRE): Considers how institutional and unit research and impact strategies support excellent research cultures, people and environments.
Abertay's REF2029 Code of Practice is a mandatory institutional document setting out how the University will implement key REF2029 requirements.
It promotes fair, transparent and consistent REF-related decision-making that is robust, evidence-based and aligned with national guidance. The REF2029 Code of Practice explains how we determine which staff contribute to the REF Volume Measure, allocate staff to Units of Assessment, and select the highest-quality outputs for our submission.
