All students must be nominated by the international/study abroad office of their home university. Please contact your international/study abroad office and ask them to nominate you. They can email the Study Abroad Team (studyabroad@abertay.ac.uk) to get more details on the nomination.
Once we've received a nomination for you, you'll be sent an invitation to our online application form with a deadline.
1st April 2024 - Semester 1 (Autumn/Fall) and Full Year nominations from home universities due
6th May 2024 - Semester 1 (Autumn/Fall) and Full Year applications due
27th September 2024 - Semester 2 (Spring) nominations from home universities due
15th October 2024 - Semester 2 (Spring) applications due
After the deadline has passed, application forms will be reviewed and offers will be sent out.
As a visiting student, you're welcome to apply for either one semester (term) or the full year.
Semester 1 usually starts at the end of August until mid/late December.
Semester 2 usually starts in early January until early May.
Please see our Academic Calendar for the exact semester dates.
As part of our application, we need to see the following documents:
A transcript showing your university grades so far – this needs to be in English or sent with an accompanying translation (of module/class titles and subjects).
A copy of the photo page of your passport.
Details of your English language qualification/level (either a certificate or confirmation of your level provided by your home university).
All courses are taught solely in English. We expect all students to have a minimum of B2 level (CEFR) or equivalent, with either evidence of a certificate of your qualification or confirmation from your home university of your proficiency in English. Please see our English Language Requirements for further details and alternative qualification levels.
A full semester at Abertay is 60 SCQF Credits, which is three modules. You are not permitted to take any more than three modules per semester.
60 SCQF credits = 30 ECTS
This is approximately equal to 12-16 North American Credits or 15 Hong Kong Credit Units.
Including independent work (to the level that is expected) these three modules equal 600 hours of teaching and learning over the 13 weeks of teaching that make up our semester, which is just over 15 hours per module, per week.
The application form asks for your subject pathway choice, so please check our subject pathways here before starting your application.
If you're offered a place, you'll be issued with a unique student ID number. This number allows you to access OASIS, our student portal, which contains details of registration and enrolment, along with module details for the duration of your studies. This information and other details will be emailed to you along with your offer.
After accepting your place, we will then be in touch with further details on accommodation, as well as confirmation of your module choices once these have been checked by the Programme Leaders at Abertay.
All international students are invited to attend an International Student Welcome event and orientation programme before the start of teaching. For more information on this and advice on how to prepare for your stay in Dundee, please see our Living in Dundee page.
