The Chancellor’s Fund is for PhD, MPhil and Masters students to meet expenditure relating to training and development in their specific area of research, up to a maximum of £5000.
Through a generous gift from Lord Cullen, The Chancellor’s Fund is designed to assist PhD, MPhil, and Masters Students to meet expenditure relating to training and development in their specific area of research. This is for funding in support of travel, training courses, conferences and networking opportunities relating to the applicant's specific area of research. It does NOT cover the costs associated with the research project, such as data collection.
The Fund provides a total annual disbursement of up to £5000.
The Chancellor's Fund will also support Abertay's Annual Post Graduate Research Summer and Winter Conferences with the following Awards:
The winners will receive £50 each, as chosen by the conference audience.

If you have received another funding award which includes an allowance for travel and conference attendance, you are NOT eligible for this award. The Fund cannot be used to assist you meeting costs related to your research and is not for general living expenses.
Applications open: Monday 13th October 2025.
Applications close: Once funds have run out or end of the academic year*.
*The Fund may close before the end of the academic year if all available funds have been distributed before then.

Applications must be submitted a minimum of 4 weeks before the event or activity that you plan to attend or undertake.
You need to include a statement or email from your supervisor confirming their support for your application. You must also include details of the costs of attending the event or activity, and if you have secured or applied for funding elsewhere.
All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by email at the earliest opportunity.
