On Wednesday 29 November 2023, Abertay's Deputy Principal Professor Alastair Irons kicked off the Abstract 45 series with a lecture titled: "Navigating Turmoil: What's the future for Higher Education in the UK?"
In the talk, Alastair addressed the period of significant challenge and disruption in the UK higher education sector in the UK, discussing how institutions are adapting to a future shaped by the fallout of Covid-19, the rise of AI, increasing cybersecurity risks, changing student and staff needs and an ever-present squeeze on funding.
Drawing on experience from over 30 years in higher education, Alastair focused on student-centred education, and explored ways in which the sector can be a better platform to enable all students, prospective students and academics to achieve their full potential, both educationally and in their contribution to society.
