Research and teaching are vital functions of a university and, in the video games sector, help drive innovation, new product development and the pipeline of graduate talent that games design studios rely on. However, in creative fields such as games, it can be difficult to reconcile research and teaching and, if we understand research in traditional terms – as peer-reviewed articles in academic journals or as monographs – where do creative disciplines such as video games fit?
