Join us to welcome Chicago based artist, anti-war activist, teacher and Iraq War veteran Aaron Hughes, who works collaboratively in diverse spaces and media. His work seeks out and shares the poetic connections that bind us together, reveal our shared humanity and make meaning out of personal and collective trauma.

Aaron will be talking about a new project involving collaboration with the former conductor of the Iraqi National Symphony and renowned cellist, maestro Karim Wasfi, known for his performances on sites of explosions in Iraq. Entitled Poetry Despite/Music Despite (Eternal War Requiem), this cross-cultural exchange will be shown at the BALTIC Gallery in Gateshead for the 2019 BALTIC Artists’ Award.

We are very pleased to be hosting this Platform talk aboard the HMS Unicorn, one of the oldest historic warships left in the world. Huge thanks to them for collaborating with us for this event.
