Your First Few Days

Essential information to make sure your first few days go smoothly.

Essential Information

We aim to help make your transition to university life as smooth as possible. Here's some of the essential information you'll need to make that happen.

In-person ID check

All new students need to attend an in-person ID checking appointment during Fresher's Week.

This means you'll need some kind of photo ID such as a passport or a driving licence (if you have one) and proof of your home address.

International students - you will need to show your passport and other visa documentation in person.

You'll be emailed about the date/time for this.

Student accommodation

To find out how to access your student accommodation, please contact your accommodation provider directly. The addresses and links you need are on the student halls of residence page.

Finding your way around campus

Our campus is compact, and there’s always someone around to point you in the right direction.

Maps are on each floor, you can find out more here under 'Room Numbers and Maps', or you can ask where to go at reception.

As well as the Bernard King Library and Student Centre, there are four named buildings in the University

The Library: The Bernard King Library provides PCs, books, ebooks, journals, and a variety of comfortable study places. Opening hours vary throughout the year.

Visit the library pages for all the details.

Your student card

All new students get a student ID card. You need it to access services in the University, including adding credit to your print allowance and borrowing books from the library. Your student card is also useful for getting discounts at restaurants and high-street stores, so keep it handy!

Your Abertay email account

Your Abertay email address will be your student number followed by '@abertay.ac.uk'. For example, 999999@abertay.ac.uk.

This is the only email account our staff will use to contact you, so please make sure you check in regularly.

Timetable

Your personalised timetable will be available by the time teaching starts if not before.

You will be able to see it by selecting the Timetable tile on MyAbertay on the intranet.

MyLearningSpace: your virtual learning tool

MyLearningSpace is the virtual learning tool that we use at Abertay.

You can access it from our intranet, called MyAbertay. Your tutors will use it to post notes, coursework and announcements specific to your classes.

You'll also submit coursework through MyLearningSpace. Make sure you log in regularly!

OASIS

OASIS is where you can access your student records. You will use OASIS to view your assessment and examination results, make payments and set up direct debits to the University.

IT problems

For any IT problems, email the IT Service Desk. Whether you’re having trouble configuring your laptop for wifi access or you've accidentally deleted something important, the IT Service Desk can help.

Support services

If you need some help or support, check out the support services page to find out who to contact.
